7/19 - Monsoon Season!!!
The storms are upon us and there is no stopping them. Usually,
especially for us AZ natives, we are expecting them and know that they're
no big deal. Yeah they blow stuff around and make everything a mess, but
we need the water and well, they're darn cool to watch (safely of course)!!!
Unfortunately they make our lives as Pool Care people very difficult!!!
Whether you take care of your own pool, or you have a pool guy, here are a
few universal tips for monsoon season.
+If possible turn the pump on during the storm. Why? Its only gonna get
dirtier right?!?! Well, yes and no; if you turn on the pump it will fight the
losing battle as its happening, rather than trying to go in after the full effect
alike. With a lot of debris in the bottom of the pool a vacuum will get
clogged easier and pop-ups will usually only blow it around more. If it runs
during the storm they are cleaning as it gets messy and runs less risk for
the issues it would face cleaning it all up after the monsoon. Some
electricians will argue that the equipment runs less of a power surge risk
during a monsoon if it is running, as well.
+After the storm empty as many baskets as possible. Even if you have a
pool technician it is best to empty the baskets yourself between visits.
Especially if the storm happened a few days before the technicians
scheduled next visit. The longer leaves and debris sit in those baskets the
more they play havoc on the chemicals in the pool and the higher risk of a
green pool. It can also cause filter and/or pump problems if the baskets
are so full that they are reducing the water flow. It is best all around if you
can empty those baskets yourself after a storm, it'll save chemicals and
possibly costly repairs.
